J'habite le Liban et suis proprietaire d'un 147 selespeed 2003 avec laquelle je n'ai eu que des problemes depuis 2 ans.
J'ai recopie plus bas un mail que j'ai envoye au charge de clientele Fiat il y a une semaine et qui est reste sans reponse.
Apres avoir lu le mail (que j'ai malheureusement du ecrire en anglais) j'aimerai savoir si vous avez tous eu autant de problemes et quels conseils vous me donneriez pour reussir a me faire entendre d'Alfa

I am the first owner of an Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 Selespeed, Mod. 2003 that I purchased on January 8, 2003 in Lebanon.

I have faced a huge number of problems with my car and this is why i am writting to you
Let me give you more details

I have asked for and obtained your email address from the Aftersales manager at the Alfa Romeo exclusive dealer in Lebanon.

He in fact recommended that I directly write you to address the following points:

My warranty period will be over at the end of 2004. I have asked to purchase an additional 1 year warranty and my dealer informed me that Alfa Romeo refuses to cover the actuator of the Selespeed system after the first 2 years, even when I am ready to pay for the warranty extension.
I must say that I am quite surprised. I have had the actuator changed twice during the warranty period and have all the reasons in the world to expect it to go wrong again. My dealer argues that the defects have been corrected once and for all but the experience I had proves the opposite.
In addition, I have had an unbelievable number of problems with my car among which:
- After 1 day I purchased the car, on January 9, A defective brake switch for the Selespeed was replaced,
- In march 2003, The whole dashboard had to be taken out to install a piece of carpet to remove abnormal vibrations.
- In march 2003, an error message for the Selespeed system was corrected by reprogramming the gear box
- In June 2003, the CD auto radio was replaced. The CD did not function properly
- In July 2003, the driver seat, height adjustment system got stuck in the highest position. I had the chair mechanism replaced in August 2003 having to drive the car like this for one month,
- In August 2003, I had the rear shock absorbers replaced. I had been complaining from abnormal noise at the back for 2 months.
- In September 2003, the gearbox got stuck in 2nd gear. The car was towed to the garage. A relay in the gearbox system was replaced
- In October 2003, the gearbox got stuck again in 2nd gear. The car was again towed to the garage and the Selespeed gear box was reprogrammed
- In November 2003, the gearbox stuck again in 2nd gear. The car was towed to the garage and the actuator was changed a first time. I had to stay without my car for 2 days.
- From January to April 2004, I kept having ‘Selespeed failure’ message. The actuator was finally changed a second time
- From July to October 2004, I had an abnormal noise in the right front. The ‘steering wheel box’ was changed.
- In July 2004, the car refused to start for no reason and was towed to the garage. The battery was replaced
- From July 2004 to October 2004, I visited the garage 3 times to get the fog lights repaired, The fuse kept on blowing with no reason
- In October 2004, I noticed a coolant liquid leak. I contacted the garage assistance. The car was towed to the garage and it appeared that the engine oil and coolant got mixed. The ‘Oil radiator’ was changed.
On many occasions, my dealer provided me with a replacement car, a Renault Clio and I feel I have lately been driving this Clio more than my Alfa

I know that I am missing some of the problems I faced and the dates as well as car parts description may not be very precise. The above list and all the problems are anyway all available with details at the dealer’s garage and you can contact them for confirmation.

My car has just reached 30,000km. It is regularly serviced at the dealer.

I must admit that driving this car is a fantastic experience and I am a real Alfa passionate. Owning it however is a nightmare. Does Alfa Romeo consider that this is normal? If yes, than I will probably not get any answer to my mail.

If not, I look forward to hearing from you and expect that you will take the necessary measures (by replacing the car or extending the warranty for 2 additional years). Otherwise, I will simply sell this car to cut on my losses (in money, time and nerves) and get a reliable car.

Impressionnant le nombre de problemes!!!

Pour ce qui est de l'extension de garantie, je ne vois pas pourquoi il te la refuserait. Si les termes du contrat sont les memes dans tous les pays, ils ne peuvent pas refuser. Sauf si ton véhicule à plus de 23 mois et plus de 40000km.

Oula tu as tiré le gros lot !
Les problemes attirent les problemes malheureusement.
Moi à ta place je serais aussi dégouté d'alfa romeo même si au fond on sait que ce n'est pas général mais ça laisse des traces tant de problemes.

Vraiment désolé pour toi. Heureusement que toutes les 147 ne sont pas comme ça.

A côté de la tienne, celle de Tiffosi (qui a connu son -gros- lot de problèmes) est hyper fiable

la vache là t'a eu la totale tout de meme mais n'abandonne pas alfa tout de meme car c'est le lot de tous les constructeurs

Moi j'ai une selespeed depuis un an et presque 20.000 km et un seul petit souci du coté de la boite: des connecteurs Bosch défectueux. Mais à part ça rien á signaler. Tout parfait. Je crois que ton cas est un vrai cas de malchance... Désolé.
Quand à la non-réponse de Alfa, attends qu'ils gèrent ça un peu. Moi je leur reenverrai l'e-mail et attendrai encore un peu avant de bruler la voiture devant leur garage
Quand à l'extension de garantie, l'extension de garantie DOIT couvrir la boite selespeed. Au fait elle doit couvrir toutes les pièces de la voiture! Non mais...

Ha vi, là je suis battu !

Pour ma défense, je ne précise plus mes nouveaux problèmes, comme l'ouverture du coffre tombée en panne, le bouton de télécommande d'ouverture du coffre qui ne marche plus non plus, la banquette arrière qui ne se verrouille plus lorsqu'on veut la remettre en place, l'EGR changé, la défaillance de l'ABS..., mais bon, là, je m'égare, et la mienne déconne beaucoup mais n'est jamais en panne.

Sinon, désolé pour toi, en espérant qu'Alfa se montre plus conciliant avec toi qu'avec moi.
